課程概述

The course will discuss the following topics: 1) market concept; 2) issues of demand and supply; 3) utility and consumer choice; 4) production and profit maximization; 5) market mechanism and structure; 6) the externality and environmental issues; 7) the global economy; and 8) government and public policy. Examples of the economic concepts to be included in the course include: scarcity and choice, opportunity cost, production probability frontier (PPF), allocation mechanisms, market economics, demand, supply, finance, investment, ownership, government, regulation, disposable income, work-leisure time allocation, price, quality/value added, population, choice and decision making.
 

課程目標
The course is designed for undergraduate students to learn about the basic principles of economics. The aims are to encourage students to apply the economic theories to understand the issues in bio-industry, leisure management and tourism and to help them build the foundation of economics for their future development in leisure management program.
This course should enhance each student’s understanding of the practicalities of economics involved in the bio-industry and the business of leisure, recreation and tourism. In addition to basic concepts of economics, lectures will emphasize real-world examples in Taiwan as well as global issues. This course focuses on the microeconomic aspect, while the other of such a series of economic courses studies the macroeconomic principles. 
課程要求
Exams and Grading Policies
The exams will have a mixture of multiple choice questions and assay problems requiring detailed solutions. Practice exams will be available on the class website for you to prepare and acquaint yourself with the format of the exams.

Your grade is based on your performance in learning fundamental knowledge in the economics of leisure and tourism and applying them to real world issues, as determined by your scores on the two midterm exams (each one weights 20%), a final exam (40%) and several quizzes (20%). The final exam is cumulative. In addition, extra credits will be granted for class participation, and for solving practice questions that will be provided before each exam.
